emory-schwartzThe Donna and Marvin Schwartz Center for Performing Arts opened in February of 2003 and is home to the Emerson Concert Hall, a 135-seat Theatre Lab, a Dance Studio, and Tharp Rehearsal Hall, as well as faculty offices and classrooms. The Schwartz Center is nationally recognized among university performing arts centers. The Schwartz Center is home to the Flora Glen Candler Concert Series, which brings internationally renowned artists to Emory University. Candler artists range from large ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and Taipei Chinese Orchestra to solo artists including violinist Hilary Hahn, Bela Fleck, and baritone Thomas Hampson.

Admission and parking (at the Fishburne Parking Deck, adjacent to the Schwartz Center) for most EWE concerts are free. Visit this page for other parking options. For a campus map, click here.

AtlantaEmoryEmersonHallEducHallAll concert performances are held in the beautiful Chery Logan Emerson Concert Hall at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. Emerson Hall has a capacity of 825, and features a choral balcony, an orchestra pit, and a 14-ton Daniel Jaeckel Opus 45 Pipe Organ, installed in 2005. The architecture is a “shoebox design,” based on the Musikverein Concert Hall in Vienna, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Concert Hall, and Boston Symphony Hall. It contains multifaceted walls, creating no parallel surfaces, and providing for the best possible acoustics. It also has acoustic banners that can be adjusted to make the space acoustically correct for any kind of music ensemble or concert.

SONY DSCTharp Rehearsal Hall is used for major ensemble rehearsals, and is designed to mimic the breadth and height of a concert hall and stage so students can gain real performance experience. It is the home of the Emory Wind Ensemble, the Emory Percussion Ensembles, the Emory University Symphony Orchestra, and the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Tharp features wood floors, sound diffusion, percussion storage, and state of the art audio recording equipment. When not in use by ensembles, Tharp often serves as classroom space for classes within the department’s music curriculum.
